What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are used to fill or replace the lost volume in static wrinkles, lines and folds. Unlike

Dynamic Wrinkle injections, they do not affect facial muscle contraction. Generally, dermal fillers

are used in the treatment of wrinkles, lines and folds that appear at rest, rather than those that

appear during facial expressions.

Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance, define, or enlarge lips, and to shape the face by

injection into the cheeks, chin or nose.

Certain types of dermal fillers available, cannot be named due to TGA restrictions. Elite Cosmetic Clinic has a range of dermal fillers which are both semi permanent and permanent. These last for periods ranging from 4 to 24months, and even ten years, with some of the temporary fillers being composed of substances that are normally present in the skin. It is imperative to note that NOT ALL fillers are suitable for all areas, therefore a personalised consultation with one of our experienced injectors is essential.

What is the best filler for me?

Elite Cosmetic Clinic offers a large variety of dermal fillers. We will be able to advise you at the time of your consultation on which is the best dermal filler for your needs.

Due to TGA regulations, the exact names of most of the dermal fillers used cannot be mentioned, instead we have termed them as follows.

Filler type BC Filler type HC Filler type J Filler type E Filler type S Filler type A Filler type Radiesse (not yet subject to TGA regulations) Dermal Filler BC Dermal Filler BC implants are composed of highly purified bovine dermal collagen that is dispersed in phosphate buffered physiological saline containing 0.3% lidocaine.

Cosmetic indications These implants are indicated for the correction of contour deformities of the dermis in non-weight bearing areas. These implants have been employed successfully in many areas of the body to correct distensible acne scars; atrophy from disease or trauma; glabellar frown lines; nasolabial folds; rhinoplasty, skin graft or other surgically-induced irregularities; and other soft tissue defects.

• Dermal Filler BC implants are produced in various formulations, which are appropriate for different facial areas and conditions. There are three different types.

• Type 1 implant is used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, shallow scars and thin-skinned areas.

• Type 2 implant is used to treat moderate lines, wrinkles and scars.

• Type 3 implant is used to treat pronounced lines and wrinkles, scars, and thicker-skinned areas.

Patients experience immediate, visible results. Treatment with Dermal Filler BC implants is an easy and effective way to smooth lines, wrinkles, scars, and to define the lip border. An immediate, visible difference in the patient's appearance may be achieved in one treatment session.

Four weeks prior to the procedure, a test Implant is administered intradermally into the forearm to determine if a patient has a sensitivity to the implants. Ninety-seven percent (97%) of men and women tested can be treated with Dermal Filler BC implants.

If a patient is eligible to receive treatment, these implants are implanted intradermally through a fine gauge needle into the appropriate facial planes needed for correction. Treatment with these implants consists of a simple in-office procedure that can be completed quickly and conveniently, even during a lunch hour. Most patients return to their normal routine immediately following the procedure.

An ongoing series of customized treatments can preserve the look that is desired. These treatments are as easy and convenient as the first one.

Dermal Filler HC Now, you can temporarily replace your skin's lost collagen through innovative new treatments made from human collagen. They are Dermal Filler HC and they're changing the face of beauty.

There are 3 types of dermal filler HC.

What are dermal Filler HC?

Dermal Filler HC are collagen dermal (skin) fillers made from human collagen and injected just below the skin's surface to smooth wrinkles, fill in deep furrows and folds, and restore the lip border These implants replenish your skin's lost collagen and restore skin structure.

Treatment results are immediate and typically last up to six months. Without ongoing treatments, the collagen is gradually absorbed by the body and your face returns to its original contours.

As the only FDA-approved commercially available dermal fillers made from human collagen, Dermal Filler HC offer important advantages.

• Immediate treatment - no pre-treatment skin test required!

• Formulated with an anesthetic for comfort

• Treatment and recovery usually take less than one hour

• Treatment results last up to six months Your injector will work with you to develop a treatment program to meet your individual needs.

What is the difference between Dermal Fillers BC and HC?

HC dermal fillers are human-based collagen treatments and offer a similar aesthetic result to that of dermal fillers BC, with the added convenience of not needing a skin test. Dermal Fillers BC, are made of highly purified bovine (cow) collagen. A skin test is required 28 days before treatment.

What is Dermal Filler J?

Dermal Filler J Injectable Gel is a new 3rd generation, non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides smooth, long-lasting correction of facial wrinkles and folds.

There are 2 formulations:

Dermal Filler J ULTRA Injectable Gel is used in contouring and volumising facial wrinkles and folds. It can also be used to create definition and pouting of the lips.

Dermal Filler J ULTRA PLUS Injectable Gel is more highly cross-linked, resulting in a more robust formulation used for volumising and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles. It can also be used to increase the volume of the lips.

Is Dermal Filler J approved in Australia?

Dermal Filler J ULTRA and Derma Filler J ULTRA PLUS were approved in Australia by the TGA in June 2006.

Dermal Filler J ULTRA injectable Gel is approved for the filling of medium size and deep wrinkles of the face by injection into the mid dermis and to create definition and pouting of the lips.

Dermal Filler J ULTRA PLUS Injectable Gel is approved for the filling of medium size and deep wrinkles of the face by injection into the mid and/or deep dermis and to increase the volume of the lips.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural complex sugar that retains water and is found throughout all living organisms. HA absorbs more than 1,000 times its weight in water and adds volume to skin.

In recent years, HA has been injected into skin to restore volume and correct the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds.

What does ‘cross-linked’ mean?

Cross-linking refers to a chemical process in which individual chains of HA are chemically bound or ‘cross-linked’ together, transforming liquid HA into a soft solid or ‘gel’.The firmness of the gel depends on the degree of ‘cross-linking’ and the body absorbs cross-linked HA more slowly, which results in longer duration of effect.

Undesirable effects

These include but are not limited to:

* Inflammatory reactions (eg redness, oedema, and erythema) which may be associated with itching or pain on pressure occurring post injection * Induration or nodules at the injection site * Discolouration at the injection site * Poor effect or weak filling effect * Cases of glabellar necrosis, abscess formation, granuloma and hypersensitivity have all been reported in literature following Hyaluronic acid injection. It is therefore important to take such possible complications into account If you have previously had a permanent dermal filler implanted you should notify your doctor prior to receiving injections of Dermal Filler J.

The possibility of unknown side effects exists. The safety of Dermal Filler J Injectable Gel for use during pregnancy, in breastfeeding females, in patients under 18 years and in patients with increased susceptibility to keloid formation and hypertrophic scarring has not been established.

How long will it last?

Over time, Dermal Filler J is gradually and naturally degraded in the human body. The effect of Dermal Filler J Injectable Gel generally lasts for nine months or longer. Follow-up treatments are needed to maintain the effects of Derma Filler J.

What is Dermal Filler Type E?

Dermal Filler E Injectable Gel is a new 4th generation, non-animal sourced hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides smooth, long-lasting correction of facial wrinkles and folds.

There are two formulations:

Dermal Filler Type E Basic is an injectable implant indicated for use to increase the volume of

skin tissue which enables:

* The correction of facial depressions, either due to injury or age-related (scarring, moderate or deep wrinkles, furrows) * Remodelling of the contours of the face by injection into facial areas such as cheeks and chin etc.

* The increase of the volume of the lips (the border of the red part of the lip, increasing roundness) Dermal Filler Type E Soft is an injectable implant indicated for use to increase the volume of skin

tissue which enables:

* To correct shallow facial depressions, either due to injury or age-related (scars, fine lines, crow's feet wrinkles) * To retouch a correction undertaken with Dermal Filler E Basic, immediately or a few weeks after the first injection.

Is Dermal Filler E approved in Australia?

Dermal Filler E BASIC and Dermal Filler E SOFT were approved in Australia by the TGA in late 2006.

Dermal Filler E BASIC injectable Gel is approved for the filling of medium size and deep wrinkles of the face by injection into the mid dermis and to create definition and pouting of the lips.

Dermal Filler E SOFT Injectable Gel is approved for the filling of medium size and deep wrinkles of the face by injection into the mid and/or deep dermis and to increase the volume of the lips.

Undersirable Effects

These include but are not limited to:

* Inflammatory reactions (eg redness, oedema, and erythema) which may be associated with itching or pain on pressure occurring post injection * Induration or nodules at the injection site * Discolouration at the injection site * Poor effect or weak filling effect * Cases of glabellar necrosis, abscess formation, granuloma and hypersensitivity have all been reported in literature following Hyaluronic acid injection. It is therefore important to take such possible complications into account Precautions should be taken with injecting Dermal Filler E into an area which has already been treated with another filling product as there is no clinical data re the efficiency and tolerance available.

The possibility of unknown side effects exists. The safety of Dermal Filler E Injectable Gel for use during pregnancy, in breastfeeding females, in patients under 18 years and in patients with increased susceptibility to keloid formation and hypertrophic scarring has not been established.

How long will it last?

Over time, Dermal Filler E is gradually and naturally degraded in the human body. The effect of Dermal Filler E Injectable Gel generally lasts for six to nine months. Follow-up treatments are needed to maintain the effects of Derma Filler E.

What is Dermal Filler S?

Dermal Filler S is a truly unique facial enhancement that may help you look years younger –from giving the appearance of a complete “mini-facelift” to eliminate troublesome lines, wrinkles, or furrows – without the risk of surgery.

Dermal Filler S is suitable for increasing the volume of depressed areas, particularly to correct skin depressions, such as in skin creases, wrinkles, folds, scars, eye rings and skin aging. Derma Filler S is also suitable for large volume corrections of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy).

Dermal Filler S is a synthetic injectable material that is biocompatible (a material that does not harm the body) and biodegradable (able to be broken down by the body). It has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches, soft tissue implants, and other types of implants.

How does Dermal Filler S work?

Dermal Filler S is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. Dermal Filler S provides a gradual increase in skin thickness. Visible results appear within the first few treatment sessions. Dermal Filler S will not correct the underlying cause of the facial fat loss, but will help improve the appearance by increasing skin thickness in the treated area.

Possible side effects Some potential side effects of Dermal Filler S are injection related and transient. These may include bleeding, pain, local redness, bruising, and swelling.

Other observed side effects include tiny lumps, called modules, along with induration [hardness] and inflammation [redness and swelling]. In rare cases, patients experienced skin atrophy [loss] or hypertrophy [increase in size], injection site abscess [pus-filled cavity], or granuloma [nodular re lesion]. Nonvisible or visible nodules [lumps], redness, and swelling were observed at 6 -12 months after treatment. These are considered rare, and have been seen with other implantable devices. In very rare cases, these nodules required medical treatment, including surgical removal.

These may appear if Derma Filler S was not administered properly; however massaging the injection area after treatment can minimize the chance of occurrence.

How long does it last?

Treatment results will differ for each person. In a clinical study, the treatment results lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session, in most patients. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.

It is compulsory that you have a consultation with the treating Doctors as not everyone is suitable for Dermal Filler S.

Dermal filler A What are Dermal Filler A Implants?

Modern medical science has brought many positive advances into the public domain. One of the fastest-growing of these is aesthetic enhancement - the process of improving quality of life by ironing out the physical anomalies in our looks that we are unhappy with.
