3:18pm-6:00pm TUTORING Club/Tutoring Dismissal: 4:20pm Tutorials will be Tuesday and Thursday from 3:40pm-4:20pm with the exception of school holidays and early release dates. Tutorials are by invitation only, if your child is required to attend you will be notified by his/her classroom teacher. If you are concerned with your child’s progress please schedule a conference with his or her classroom teacher. Students must be picked up on time after tutorials are dismissed at the back of the building in the K-5th drop-off/pick-up area.
HSI-SA ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE
The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death.
As a service to the ALS community, Harmony School of Innovation San Antonio will be participating in the “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!” Where: Harmony School of Innovation When: Friday September 12, 2014 @ 1:30 pm Who: Selected 10th grade students will pour a bucket of ice water on the heads of the administration staff.
Why: To raise awareness of this deadly disease; and to raise money to help fund the research efforts to treat and cure patients suffering from ALS.
How: Students will pay $5.00 to watch this event take place. Payments will be made to the front office, and students will be issued a ticket to attend the event.
Parent Nights at Harmony School of Innovation We invite you to attend our Welcome Back to School Parent Nights at HSISA. Each grade level will have the opportunity for parents to meet the teachers and administration team from 4:00-6:00pm on
their designated date. Below is the schedule for these events:
9th and 10th Grade Student Chromebook Orientation—Attendance is required for all 9thth grade students and their parents/guardians.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are Thursday, September 25, 2014.
This will be an early release day with dismissal at 12:50pm so please plan accordingly.
AND INFORMATIONIf your child eats breakfast or lunch provided at the school, please remember that we do not accept cash for meal payments. Acceptable forms of payment are check, money order, or credit/debit card. You may also pay through your child's database account. If you believe you qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, please make sure you have turned in a lunch application. We require a new lunch application every year. Applications were sent in the mail, and are also available at the front office.
HSISA CLUB INFORMATIONAll clubs will be on Monday and Friday of each week from 3:40pm-4:20pm with the exception of school holidays and early release dates unless otherwise stated. Students must be picked up on time after clubs are dismissed at the back of the building in the K-5th drop-off/pick-up area.

Cooking Club I would like to introduce Turkish Cuisine. Students are able to learn new skills and witness their confidences in cooking grow. Best of all, we eat what have cooked at the end of each session together as a family. This class is open to middle and high school male students. I would like to tell you some delicious cook names. Those are stuff green grape leaves (sarma), kus kus, and Turkish delight with carrot (cezerye) and so on. If you want to get more detail or information see Mr.Yilmaz.
The cooking class will be meeting on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. This club is free.
MathCounts is right around the corner;
Nominations will be made September 8, 2014, so hurry to apply! Your last year Math grade, state test results and your discipline records will guide us determine of you are eligible. We will let you know if you are accepted by September 10, 2014, Friday. Club activities will be Tuesday and Friday after school from 3:30PM-5:00PM. On Fridays there will be overnight programs based on the teacher and dorm availability and the student interest. Female students are excluded from overnight studies unless volunteer female chaperons are found.
Science Club Fridays 3:30-4:15 Mr. Eaves and Ms. Ward Teacher in charge: Ms. Ward Max number of students: 15 Lab Classroom: 314 The Harmony Science Club offers our students the chance to explore science-related activities to enhance what they have learned in the classroom. We may complete a challenge, perform experiments, or conduct research into scientific areas of interest.
Science Fair Competitions This club is for students who want to take their science fair project to regional competition, and beyond. We will assist with the forms and paperwork needed to enter the ARASE regional fair.
Also we will provide advice and editing on the PowerPoints and
papers. Once ready we will help with the preparation of the display board. These competitions are an exceptional learning experience and give students an opportunity to develop their speaking skills. And, of course, there are prizes.

Ms. Koehler & Mr. Ege Guitar Jam Club –Mrs. Villarreal, Mr. Garcia, & assigned student helper Mondays- 3:25pm-4:25pm Only available for students from only 4th-10th grade.
MEMBERSHIP FEE: $5 per students. (The money will be used to buy different styles of guitar `songs.)
*** NO GUITARS WILL BE PROVIDED!!! STUDENTS WILL USE THEIR OWN GUITAR OR RENTONE.

What: Chess Club CHESS CLUB IS CURRENTLY FULL th Where: 4 Floor Conference Room When: Mondays and Fridays from 3:45-4:30pm.
Who: Mr. Mallett (Elementary Math Interventionist) and 10-12 eager students who are ready to learn the fantastic game of chess.
Why: Scientific studies have shown that students who regularly play chess score higher on Reading and Math tests as compared to their non-playing counterparts. Chess helps improve visual memory, attention span, and spatial-reasoning ability. Additionally, because chess sometimes requires players to think two or three moves ahead, students can become more organized with their thoughts and use logic to make decisions. Finally, and most importantly, the Chess Club will teach your student about sportsmanship and how to handle winning and losing with grace and class.
Math Contest Club (MCC) Acceptance requirements: passed the last year state test, advanced students will have the privilege, no discipline issues, no suspension, positive teacher feedbacks, cooperative work with peers, no transportation issues, and consistent participation to the events.
-Date(s) & Time club meets The club members will meet every Monday and Friday 3:30PM-5:30PM. Students will also be asked to stay overnight at the school dormitory as boys or as girls over the Friday nights. For boys Mr. Tatir will be the chaperon along with other volunteer male staff or parent for overnight stays, for girls the overnight program will be available if a female staff members from the school can commit. Parent volunteers for boys and girls are welcomed.
Mr. Tatir TURKISH FOLK DANCE CLUB (Only Girls) Students who learn Turkish as a second language can participate in this club. Students will participate in the 9th Annual Turkish Culture and Language Olympiad. The first competition is going to be in San Antonio in December. Finals are going to be in January in Houston.
We are going to have practices on Mondays and Fridays from 3:40 to 5:00 pm.
We are going to use the dorm. (Max 16 students) Ms. Kucuk Elementary Book Club Grades 3-5 I am very excited to be heading up the 3rd-5th Grade Elementary Book Club. Our meetings will be Monday’s from 3:45-4:20 in room 406. There is space for 20 students, in the club. We will be reading and listening to a variety of interesting books.
Ms. Usrey K-2 Book Club This club meets every Monday starting September, 8th in the library.
We will be meeting once a week to read, talk about, and do activities with different picture books. We will have a monthly theme that all of the books will be centered around. Students are not required to purchase any books, however they are encouraged to bring in favorites from home that we can read together. Students should join this club if they love hearing new stories, meeting new friends, and talking about books.
This club will have a maximum of 20 students and is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
SCIENCE OLYMPIADDates & Time club meets: on Monday & 3:40 pm-4:25 pm Room: 314 Teachers involved in the club: Mrs. Yildiz and Mrs. Gulsah Max number of students: 15 Grades: 6th,7th,8th and 9th graders.
PSAT CLUB For those interested in college, this club is an excellent chance to prepare for the PSAT. Many colleges use this test to award scholarships.
The PSAT measures the critical reading, math and writing skills needed to succeed in college and beyond! Why not take the test early and beat the competition? Come join the club and prepare with friends in a fun, interactive environment.

After a brief discussion the membership voted to change the meetings to the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 6:30 pm at the school. The following members volunteered and were
accepted by the membership to be PTO officers for the 2014-15 school year:
Dennis Lockert – President Lindy Matej – Vice President Richard Perales – Secretary Jana Dudding – Treasurer John Shadron – Parliamentarian Congratulations to the new officers. Finally there was good exchange of information between members for future activities and fundraisers.
Next PTO Meetings: The September 8th meeting has been cancelled.
There will be an Executive Board meeting on September 9th at 4:00 pm to discuss the PTO budget for this school year. The next General Membership meeting will be September 16th at 6:30 pm. Details of the meeting will be emailed to the membership and published in the Tiger Mail.
