The Wild ‘n’ Crazy “Foot-in-the-Door Formula” This highly unusual strategy that some might consider an ‘off the charts’ risk-taking venture is not for the faint-hearted. It’s for the determined job seeker who wants to avoid the same ol’, same ol’ letter-writing strategy that professionals have been using for decades. These job seekers are ready for something new, exciting, and motivating. This strategy is so effective it’s almost guaranteed to get you a job interview. Here it is — based on one man’s powerful experience that landed him not only a job interview but also a job offer.

Ted Schubert (not his real name) couldn’t wait to start his dream job — working at a marketing and advertising firm where he could use his creative skills every day. He had so many ideas he was about to burst. But how would an employer find out about his talent if he never spoke to one in person? This was a dilemma — until Ted realized that he didn’t have to wait to be hired to exercise his creativity, he could do so up front — during the job search process.

He wanted to make a big impression on the CEO of the particular firm he had in mind. So this is what he did. He wrote a job search cover letter that was a bit different than any he had written before. Following is an example of the pitch he used.

Copyright © CareerJimmy LLC – All Rights Reserved Worldwide 5 “5 ‘Sneaky’ OFFLINE Job Search Strategies That Work Like Crazy!” Visit Us On The Web: CareerJimmy Dear Mr. Hiring Manager: (of course he found out the person’s real name and used it) I have studied your company policies, all but memorized your mission statement, and have talked with a number of your satisfied and respected employees, especially those currently working in the marketing and advertising department. I’m very excited about what you are doing for your clients. I’m impressed with the creativity, the humanity, and the unique ways you present products and services to the public. I’ve told myself over and over, “This is the place for me!” I know I can add to what you are already doing, learn from those who have gone before me, and together boost your client base and increase the profit margin.

But then I asked myself the big question that all job seekers ask, “How can I get my foot in the door?” Suddenly it came to me. By putting my best ‘shoe’ forward — the one enclosed with this letter. Please hang on to this shoe (your size, by the way — I checked ahead of time with your secretary). The mate will be on its way soon.

That must sound like bribery or a demand — pretty bold of me, I realize, but I don’t know any other way to draw your attention away from the hundreds of ordinary cover letters you receive every week and consider mine above them all. But wait! Here I am asking to get my foot in the door and I haven’t even told you about my professional skills, credentials, and experience! I did think of that, by the way, and I’ve covered it in my resume attached to this letter.

All the serious stuff is listed in that document.

But for now I hope you’ve seen some of my creativity in action to the point that you will invite me in for an interview for the position of Assistant Advertising Executive. One call is all it will take for me to show up ready to talk business — and to give you the other shoe. My feeling is you’ll want to hire me — that is, if the shoe fits! I look forward to hearing from you.

Copyright © CareerJimmy LLC – All Rights Reserved Worldwide 6 “5 ‘Sneaky’ OFFLINE Job Search Strategies That Work Like Crazy!” Visit Us On The Web: CareerJimmy Why use this strategy? Because it can be one of the most creative and effective ways to get the hiring manager’s full attention — particularly for a marketing/advertising job.

When to use? Anytime really, but during a tough economy when competition is fierce and you want to go to work right now, this might be the perfect fit… especially when you are seeking a job in the Marketing/ Advertising/Sales field and want to showcase your creativity. You may also want to try this technique when you have a specific company in mind that you want to work for above all others.

QUiCk tiP: Don’t be afraid to use this “Foot-In-The-Door Formula” with the President/CEO/Owner of the company as well! Use your best judgment depending on the size of the organization and how accessible certain decision makers may be.

This exciting strategy can literally TRIPLE your chances of getting interviewed and hired. If you feel passionate about landing a particular job at a particular company, but the odds seem stacked against you, try the “FedEx® Follow-Up Secret” to grab the hiring manager’s FULL attention.

–  –  –

Send your resume and cover letter as a FedEx® package overnight or two-day express to the main decision maker, hiring manager, CEO, or other executive. But be sure to address that person by NAME. Avoid ‘to whom it may concern’ or it will be of no concern to anyone!

This strategy guarantees your letter will be opened and read. Who would refuse to open a FedEx® package? No one — even if the only motive is curiosity.

Write your cover letter by stating how much you admire the company and how it has been your goal to join the family of employees as a (state the exact position you hope to fill) for some time. Tell the manager your purpose in sending your letter and resume via FedEx®, that you are doing so because this is one of the most important steps you’ve taken in your search for the ideal job. You want him (or her) to know that you are serious, intentional, and committed to being a team player, a faithful employee, and eager to use your job skills to further the company’s mission and it’s profit line.

Also attach your current resume.

Then clearly and directly ASK for the job interview. Your letter must have purpose and meaning so you will be taken seriously and considered for the job opening. Put this “FedEx® Follow-Up Secret” to use and then keep your eyes and ears open for an invitation to book a job interview.

Why use this strategy? Because it is creative, clever, effective, and gets results when you most need them — especially if you have tried conventional methods and did not get the results you wanted.

When to use? Anytime you’re serious about landing a specific position with a specific company and you want to make sure you’ll get noticed and considered for the position being offered. The “FedEx® Follow-Up Secret” may not be as wild ‘n’ crazy as the “Foot-In-The-Door Formula” but it’s guaranteed to put you front and center to the recipient and for that reason can be very effective indeed!

What does “The Reverse Job Offer” involve?

You simply and clearly state that you will work for FREE for X number of hours/days/months to PROVE that you are the perfect fit for the position you want. Imagine a hiring manager’s reaction to such an offer?

There is NO risk at all on the part of the company. You shoulder all of the financial responsibility for the period of time you offer. Your point? To demonstrate in a tangible way your skills and your devotion to landing this particular job.

Think of it as a “no-risk guarantee” — similar to guarantees offered by various vendors for their products and services. You’ve seen such on television. “No-risk, 30-day money-back guarantee if you’re not totally satisfied.” In a sense, that’s what you’re offering the hiring manager when you pull out the stops and offer to work without pay for one or two weeks, a month, or whatever time frame you’re comfortable with.

Why use this strategy? Because simply put, it can be incredibly effective at landing you the job! Use it if you can afford to go without pay for X number of days while you prove you’re worth in REAL TIME that you’re the perfect fit for this position. “The Reverse Job Offer” is a bold, powerful, and UNIQUE move with practically no risk to the company you’re targeting.

The “Fortune Cookie Secret” associates you instantly with good luck and good fortune in the mind of the hiring manager. Use this “impossible to ignore” strategy to super-charge your chances of landing the interview in a unique, friendly, and endearing way.

How about this? You want to attract the attention of a particular hiring manager. Send him or her a custom-designed fortune cookie with his or her “fortune” tucked inside. This is sure to make an impression on an employer or CEO. Of course it’s essential that you find out the name (and correct spelling) of this individual to make the gift personal and effective.

Consider these potential “fortunes.” An ideal job candidate (Bill Blaine) is in your near future.

Hire John Smith (555-555-5555) and watch your company grow.

Joan White (333-333-3333) is the right one for the job.

You can’t go wrong if you hire Peter Collins (PCollins@jobsearch.com).
